Oswestry Cricket ClubMore InformationThe Apple Sellers are a contemporary folk duo from Manchester that blend elements of modern classical and traditional folk and spiritual music to create captivating musical performances. It is a unique approach that has seen them gain standing ovations at both folk festivals and classical music events.
The duo consists of the acclaimed musician and storyteller Martin Purdy, frontman of the award-winning folk trio Harp & a Monkey, and gifted multi-instrumentalist Ian Mayer (#halfblindbassist) from Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. The pair, who first met in (and continue to meet in) a community orchard, bonded over a shared passion for the power of musical storytelling. The result is an evocative sound underpinned by piano, double bass, harmonium, shruti box drones and strong harmony vocals.
“Folk music deconstructed, reimagined and reassembled with a soupçon of Indian secular drone, a pinch of Gorecki, Riech, Glass minimalism, and a passing nod to La Monte Young, accompanying lyrics of dark, strange, humorous tales. Original, rewarding, entertaining, catch if you can.

Three very different gardens will open this year with features inc an orchard, vegetable plots, meadow, ponds and roses, plus rare and interesting plants inc orchids. There is an emphasis on encouraging wildlife through the planting of native species, habitat provision and avoidance of chemicals. Parking, WC, plant sale and refreshments are available at 17 Mortimer Road where there are a dozen different seating areas from which to choose.

More InformationFounded in 1966, Church Stretton Arts Festival has been held every year since its first Festival in 1967. The Festival takes place over 2 weeks across different venues in and around Church Stretton, with a range of performance arts to suit all tastes. In addition, the Art, Craft and Photography Exhibition and craft workshops take place every day of the Festival fortnight and which attracts well over a hundred exhibiting local artists. The performances span classical and contemporary music concerts, contemporary music, drama, speakers, free coffee concerts and free organ recitals.

Farmhouse Garden with views of the Wrekin and the Stretton Hills. Comprising several garden 'rooms' connected by gravelled walkways interspersed with ample seating opportunities. Unusual features inc a raised scree terrace, a rose pergola and bed with 40 varieties of English shrub roses, a two sided herbaceous walk, an elevated viewing deck, a cactus house and self-sufficient allotment beds.

Begun in 2010 from a derelict and overgrown site, cultivated areas now rub shoulders with the natural landscape using fine borrowed views over and down a valley. Inc brook side walks, a ‘pocket’ park, four ponds (inc a Monet lily pond), mixed borders and lawns, cottage garden and wildflowers.
Admission £6. Children free. Cream teas. Plant sale
