at Lydbury North Village HallRobert Johnson & The Devil
19:30 - 20:30 5th June 2026

Lydbury North Village HallSY7 8AUMore InformationSomewhere in Mississippi, 1938.
A lost man stands at a fork in the road, with a guitar in his hand. The road he’s on leads back to a life that’s fallen apart. The other leads to glory.
This is the story of an all-consuming dream, the cost of a human soul, and a deal with the Devil.
Robert Johnson & The Devil is a myth inspired by the original bluesman, with live delta blues and spirituals, told in the best fireside tradition. An icon for Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin, and the first member of the infamous ‘27 club’, Robert Johnson’s disappearance remains shrouded in mystery to this day. -

19:00 6th June 2026
at st Leonard's Church
BridgnorthRichard Thompson with Zara Phillips
19:00 - 22:30 6th June 2026

More InformationRichard Thompson’s musical influence cannot be overstated. Having co-founded the groundbreaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the ‘60s, he and his bandmates invented the distinctive strain of British Folk Rock. He left the group by the age of 21 which was followed by a decade long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda, to over 30 years as a highly successful solo artist.
In 2011, Thompson received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. The Los Angeles Times called him “the finest rock songwriter after Dylan and the best electric guitarist since Hendrix” and Rolling Stone has named him one of the Top 100 Guitarists of All Time. He has received lifetime achievement awards for songwriting from the BBC Radio 2 Awards, the Americana Music Association, and was awarded the prestigious Ivor Novello Award. His song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” was named one of TIME Magazine’s “100 Greatest Songs Since 1923.” A wide range of musicians have recorded Thompson’s songs including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, R.E.M., Sleater-Kinney, Del McCoury, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Jones, David Byrne, Don Henley, Los Lobos, and many more. His massive body of work includes many Grammy nominated albums as well as numerous soundtracks, including Werner Herzog’s Grizzly Man and 2019’s The Cold Blue.
His genre defying mastery of both acoustic and electric guitar along with engaging energy and onstage wit continue to earn him new fans and a place as one of the most distinctive virtuosos and writers in Folk Rock history. In May 2024 Richard Thompson released to critical acclaim, Ship To Shore, his first studio album in six years.

Letters and family memoirs show that alongside her work as a writer she played, sang, and copied music throughout her life. She attended balls, assemblies, concerts and musical theatre, experiencing the explosion of public musical entertainment Georgian England had to offer.

atLingen Davies X Ray of Sun Adventures: Walk for Wellbeing: The Long Mynd
10:00 - 14:00 11th June 2026
More InformationJoin us for a refreshing guided hike across one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Shropshire Hills — where sweeping hilltop views, hidden valleys, and cascading waterfalls create a truly unforgettable outdoor experience.
This walk is part of the Walk for Wellbeing programme, delivered in collaboration with Lingen Davies Cancer Support. It is specifically designed for people living with cancer, those currently in treatment, individuals in recovery, and cancer survivors across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales — and is completely FREE.
The aim of these walks is to create a safe and welcoming space where participants can enjoy movement, fresh air, and the restorative benefits of nature alongside others who understand the cancer journey.
Starting from the beautiful Carding Mill Valley, we’ll follow scenic valley trails before climbing into the dramatic landscape of the Long Mynd. Along the way we’ll explore hidden waterfalls, peaceful upland valleys, and one of the highest viewpoints in the Shropshire Hills — all while walking at a supportive group pace.
This is more than just a hike. It’s a chance to reconnect with nature, build confidence outdoors, and spend time with people who share similar experiences — with no pressure to share, just a shared understanding.

Beethoven: Symphony No. 8 in F Opus 93 (1812)KROMMER was one of the most popular composers in 19th-century Vienna alongside Beethoven. His output was prolific, with at least three hundred published compositions including nine symphonies, seventy string quartets and many others for winds and strings, about fifteen string quintets and much sonorous, idiomatic and at times powerful music for wind ensemble. In 1818 Krommer succeeded Leopold Koželuch as Kapellmeister, composer for the Imperial Court of Austria for Francis I, the first Emperor of Austria, the post he held until his death.
VANHAL a Czech composer, born in Nechanice, Bohemia. He was a proficient organist, played the violin and cello, and was a prolific writer. Their are a large number of instrumental and vocal works, one hundred quartets, at least seventy three symphonies, and ninety five sacred works attributed to him. His music was well respected by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Franz Schubert. Such was his success that within a few years of his symphonies being written, they were being performed around the world, and as far distant as the United States.

BEETHOVEN
J. C. BACH (1735-1782) established a reputation in England, and in 1766 became music master to Queen Charlotte. He performed symphonies and concertos at the Hanover Square Rooms which was London's premier concert venue in the heart of fashionable Mayfair. The surrounding surrounding Georgian homes offered a well-to-do clientele for his performances. In 1777, Bach won a landmark case, Bach v Longman, which established that English copyright law applied to musical scores. Even before then, Bach demanded a proper credibility for his compositions almost at the same time upon his arrival to London in 1762. He was granted an exclusive right to publish his music for 14 years. -

He was the father of the writers Frances Burney and Sarah Burney, of the explorer James Burney, and of Charles Burney, a classicist and book donor to the British Museum. He was a close friend and supporter of Joseph Haydn and other composers.
Charles Burney was born at Raven Street, Shrewsbury, the fourth of six children of James Macburney, a musician, dancer and portrait painter, and his second wife Ann (née Cooper). In childhood he and a brother Richard were for unknown reasons sent to the care of a "Nurse Ball" at nearby Condover, where they lived until 1739. He began formal education at Shrewsbury School in 1737 and was later sent in 1739 to The King's School, Chester, where his father then lived and worked. His first music master was a Mr Baker, the cathedral organist, and a pupil of John Blow. Returning to Shrewsbury at the age of 15, Burney continued his musical studies for three years under his half-brother, James Burney, organist of St Mary's Church, and was then sent to London as a pupil of Thomas Arne for three years.

About Brown Clee Hill

Set within the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, it’s known for its twin summits, wide heathland, and sweeping panoramic views that stretch as far as the Malvern Hills on a clear day. The hill also has a rich industrial past, with a history of limestone and “Dhustone” quarrying—remnants of old workings and buildings can still be spotted along the route. It was even once home to the highest coalfield in Britain, which is quite the claim to fame for a peaceful hilltop. Today, it’s a favourite among walkers and a key part of the Shropshire 3 Clee Hills Hike, offering a perfect mix of history, nature, and big open views. Why Join?

About the Stiperstones

Formed around 480 million years ago and sculpted by Ice Age weathering, it’s famous for its jagged rock formations (known as tors) that give the ridge its wild, almost otherworldly feel. Expect striking features like the Devil’s Chair, Shepherd’s Rock, and Manstone Rock—each offering incredible panoramic views stretching across the Shropshire Hills and into Wales. This National Nature Reserve is also rich in wildlife, with open heathland home to species like red grouse, and forms part of the long-distance Shropshire Way. Steeped in folklore, the ridge is said to be haunted by tales of the Devil himself and the ghostly Wild Edric… so if the wind starts howling, don’t say you weren’t warned 👀

More InformationSince emerging on the UK folk scene with her 2022 debut album Dwelling by the Weir, Ellie Gowers has captivated audiences with songs rooted in folklore, ecology, and the nuanced stories of her hometown, Warwick. Lauded by The Guardian as “full of delicacy, precision, and gentle delight,” the album established her as a compelling new presence on the UK touring circuit.
While she remains deeply connected to the folk tradition, Ellie’s latest music marks a bold evolution in her sound — drawing inspiration from the likes of MIPSO and Jeff Buckley. Written in the wake of a demanding year on the road, her new material explores themes of distance, longing, and emotional duality, signalling a more expansive and contemporary direction in her songwriting.
Summer 2024 saw the release of her long-anticipated new EP- You The Passenger, which has already garnered national attention — including airplay on BBC Radio 2 (Mark Radcliffe), 6 Music (Lauren Laverne’s Fantastic Beats), and a featured spot on the RADMAC show. The video for “A Moment” premiered via KLOF, and her work continues to find support across major playlists and tastemaker outlets. In October 2024, Ellie toured the UK supporting Gemma Hayes, with standout performances including her debut at London’s prestigious Union Chapel. Looking ahead, an extended version of the 2024 EP is set for release in autumn 2025, accompanied by a headline UK tour in November — promising a powerful new chapter from one of the scene’s most versatile and resonant voices.
