OWL LIGHT TRIO Friday 28 November Village Hall, Rhydycroesau, near Oswestry SY10 7JE Plus support Edel Donnellan and Pat O’Reilly Starts 8pm. £15. Owl Light Trio are Jim Penny on concertina, Jane Griffiths on fiddle and viola, and Colin Fletcher on guitar. All three musicians have deep roots in traditional music, share a passion for tunes from Ireland, the UK and Brittany, and draw on their combined influences to make complex, compelling and heartfelt arrangements. Individually they have performed and recorded with Maddy Prior, Nancy Kerr, Tim van Eyken, Red Dog Green Dog, and Duotone, and as a trio have appeared at many festivals. The second Owl Light Trio album, Sound into Light, was released in May last year to glowing reviews: ‘Beautifully played, full of tunes to dance to and brimming with charm’ (Tradfolk). We’re specially delighted to welcome for an opening set two superb Irish traditional musicians, Edel Donnellan (button accordion) and Pat O’Reilly (bouzouki and voice). Both are from the Manchester Irish scene, though Edel has lived near Wrexham for some time.
