“A glorious and deliciously naughty homage to Cole Porter” TORONTO STAR"Cole Porter was the top - the pinnacle of wit and sophistication. From the 1910s through the 50s from Yale pep rallies to the Broadway triumphs of "Anything Goes" and "Kiss Me Kate", he delighted audiences with a glittering torrent of songs -including "Night and Day", "Love for Sale", "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "Just One Of Those Things" . The bright surfaces of these gems - their catchy melodies and ingenious lyrics - made them instant pop hits. Their more subtle qualities and their musical and emotional depth have made them lasting standards, among the greatest glories of the American Songbook" WILLIAM McBRIEN, COLE PORTER BIOGRAPHY

LudlowCarole King's Tapestry: An Evening in Laurel Canyon
19:00 - 21:00 14th November 2024
More InformationThis event sends us back to California in the 1960s and
1970s as the hippies took over the Sunset Strip. With the house prices too
costly in the centre of town, a creative hub emerged in Laurel Canyon; an area
overlooking Los Angeles in the Hollywood Hills. Just some of those who took
advantage of this cheaper living space included members of The Byrds and The
Doors as well as Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and Carole King…In the first half of this concert, you will hear music from
the artists listed above as well as many others by the Laurel Canyon residents
during this time.In the second half, the band will perform in its entirety
Carole King's masterpiece Tapestry. Of all the albums released at this time in
the Laurel Canyon community, Tapestry, arguably, sums up this counterculture
best. It is a statement of togetherness, love in all its forms, feminism, and
endless hope for the future. -

More Information“Quietly, inexorably, The Breath have become one of the … most exciting folk acts… Only Stories… an acoustic recording that unfolds like a paper flower”
The Financial Times ★★★★★The Breath is Manchester-based guitarist Stuart McCallum and singer/flautist Ríoghnach Connolly. They met on the city’s gig circuit in the late noughties. An unlikely pairing though it was, he an acclaimed guitar whiz, ex long-time member of The Cinematic Orchestra and a softly spoken Manchester urbanite, she a folk singer with a larger-than-life personality and a powerful voice to match. Their connection was immediate; they formed The Breath in 2016, a singer-songwriter duo to present their contemporary take on alt-folk.
“raw, soulful, often mesmeric, richly textured and lushly constructed…versatile persuasive vocals” Mojo

Present our 100th productionMurder in Play
A comedy by Simon Brett
Boris Smolensky’s budget repertory production of “Murder At Priorswell Manor” is looking decidedly shaky. The cast are more interested in their egos than the play and life imitates art when a member of the cast is murdered on stage. Simon Brett’s hilarious text, a worthy companion to his Charles Paris theatrical thriller novels, ruthlessly satirizes the politics of the inept company and the numerous red herrings keep the audience guessing until the final moments of the play. - 2222nd November 2024
