From the very first cave paintings, some 27,000 years ago, humans have been compelled to represent faces. Babies can recognise familiar faces from as young as two to four months, and throughout history artists have continued to immortalise what it means to be human through portraiture. Faces We Love draws on this rich tradition, offering both realistic and abstract interpretations that capture character, mood, personality and emotion.
Faces We Love brings together the work of 21 artists and makers, each rising to the challenge of representing human and animal features in 2D and 3D forms. The result is a powerful experience that celebrates individuality while reflecting our shared human instinct to connect through recognition.
In addition to the main exhibition, 29 more artists and makers are showcasing ceramics, glass, jewellery and textiles across the gallery, highlighting the incredible breadth of creativity in Shropshire and beyond.
Visitors will also discover five specially curated displays, with three artists creating their own unique installations on the Artists’ Boards and two makers shaping the Makers’ Space. These personal curations offer an intimate glimpse into the creative process, allowing visitors to engage with the work in a more direct and personal way.
Run entirely by volunteer members, VAN Gallery not only showcases exciting new work but also plays an active role in promoting and lobbying for the visual arts across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

Blackburn Theatre, Prestfelde SchoolMore InformationAs part of this years Remembrance and Armistice commemoration Bloomin' Good Productions are touring three gentle, thoughtful comedies around Shropshire. On Friday 31st October they are at Blackburn Theatre Prestfelde School, Shrewsbury.
The evening features the Laurence Olivier Award-winning play Heroes by Gerald Sibleyras, translated by Sir Tom Stoppard (famous for Shakespeare In Love). It's a snapshot of three eccentric WW1 veterans plotting a hopeless escape from their French retirement home. Reviewers describe the humour as being akin to The Last of the Summer Wine.
This one-act play will be accompanied by two new pieces written by local writer Tim Baker.
Set in God's Waiting Room, Lions Led By Donkeys, which references the formation of the Poppy movement, puts Field Marshall Douglas Haig in the spotlight. Challenged over his role in the Great War can he defend his tactics which resulted in two million British Casualties.In The Last Lion we meet American Rifleman Henry Gunter. What was his unique contribution to The Great War?
An enjoyable evening is promised proving comedy can be the very best way to be respectful.

More InformationAs part of this years Remembrance and Armistice commemoration Bloomin' Good Productions are touring three gentle, thoughtful comedies around Shropshire. On Thursday November 6th they are at The Assembly Rooms Ludlow.
The evening features the Laurence Olivier Award-winning play Heroes by Gerald Sibleyras, translated by Sir Tom Stoppard (famous for Shakespeare In Love). It's a snapshot of three eccentric WW1 veterans plotting a hopeless escape from their French retirement home. Reviewers describe the humour as being akin to The Last of the Summer Wine.
This one-act play will be accompanied by two new pieces written by local writer Tim Baker.
Set in God's Waiting Room, Lions Led By Donkeys, which references the formation of the Poppy movement, puts Field Marshall Douglas Haig in the spotlight. Challenged over his role in the Great War can he defend his tactics which resulted in two million British Casualties.
In The Last Lion we meet American Rifleman Henry Gunter. What was his unique contribution to The Great War?
An enjoyable evening is promised proving comedy can be the very best way to be respectful.

The choir will perform Durufle’s Requiem, a great favourite of choirs and audiences, paired with William Petter’s Vigil Mass, which shares much of the same atmospheric quality and will be the work's first performance in Shropshire. Cosy HallMore InformationNewport Music Club draws the 50th anniversary season to a close with an exciting trio of talented young musicians to Cosy Hall. We are thrilled to introduce Rennie Sutherland, clarinet; Florence Plane, bassoon and David Palmer, piano.
Lumas Wind Trio are members of Lumas Winds, an ensemble based in London committed to promoting the rich variety of wind chamber music repertoire and have been described as ‘one to watch’ (BBC Radio 3, Record Review). Winners of the prestigious 71st Royal Over-Seas League Mixed Ensemble Prize, the group are currently Munster Recital Scheme Artists and Kirckman Concerts Society Young Artists.
Alongside performing the classics of the repertoire, Lumas explore works that deserve recognition. This is highlighted in the six hidden gems on their debut album, The Naming of Birds, released in May 2024, it features works from every decade from 1960 to 2010 and includes three world premiere recordings. They will be playing works by Mozart, Glinka and Hurlestone.
The ensemble has performed in venues throughout the UK including Wigmore and Conway Hall, Snape Maltings, St George’s Bristol, and recently toured Scotland with the generous support of the Tunnell Music Trust.

Virginia Kettle is the very heart of the multi award-winning folk-rock band Merry Hell. In the countryside trees were blessed, while in the towns wassaillers went house to house with their songs and calls for Christmas treats. Coming from the Anglo Saxon waes hael, ‘wassail’ is a toast wishing good health with a ‘be well’.
In November/December 2025 Eliza Carthy and Jon Boden combine their considerable talents and reputations within the UK folk scene, touring as a duo once again, for a nationwide wassail across key venues. Presenting seasonal, traditional material on a stage decorated for the occasion, they will take audiences back to some of the oldest songs in the English canon, telling Christmas tales, spreading good cheer and lighting up the darkest days of the year, ahead of Christmas Day itself. - 18th November 2025

This relaxed three-hour winter-themed pen and watercolour workshop is suitable for all abilities.
Kate will be showing different pen drawing techniques and how to overlay with 'dry' watercolour to enhance your artwork.
You will create an A4 botanical artwork using seasonal foliage - berries, holly, ivy and foliage (as well as flowers) as inspiration. This could be used for your own Christmas / Seasons Greetings card design.
The session will start with Kate showing you different pen drawing styles. She will help guide you to find a pen technique that suits you.
Once you have done some pen drawing, Kate will help you find the best watercolour technique to complement your pen work.
Kate will offer individual support and guidance throughout to help everyone develop their personal style, understand composition, colour mixing, and achieve a more confident approach to art.
Suitable for all abilities from beginners to the more experienced artist. All materials supplied. Maximum of 12 people on the workshop.

Nadia catapulted to fame when she appeared on ITV as the only classical singer on The Voice UK 2021. Her four- and-a-half octave range blew the coaches away securing her spot as a finalist of Team will.i.am. Critically acclaimed on stage as an opera and musical theatre star, she is now breaking the mould of the classical crossover genre, receiving standing ovations for her concert shows. This November and December she is touring her hugely successful Christmas concert tour Winter Light, which is taking place in beautiful churches and cathedrals around the UK this Christmas.
Chart topping soprano and star of The Voice UK, Nadia Eide, presents a spectacular Christmas concert for all ages. Singing festive favourites and classic songs, this show is sure to bring the Christmas joy! Features a special guest choir. All ages welcome.

The Rankin ClubMore InformationCharismatic, authentic and thoroughly entertaining, Lawrence Menard (USA) and Clare Quinn (AUS) are the transpacific-troubadours known as ‘Those Folk.’ Having met in Scotland in 2012, they have since travelled extensively and lived in the pine forest mountains of California. They now hang their travelling hats in Pomona, Queensland.
A partnership forged in the fires of folk music, Those Folk explore sounds from the 1960’s folk revival and contemporary Americana music. Breathtaking vocal harmonies are featured alongside rich instrumental work performed on guitars, accordion, mandolin and banjo. Lawrence & Clare are storytellers who make audience members feel like fast friends. As songwriters they delve into love, hope, belonging, and the human condition. As performers they enthral, enchant, and leave a lasting impression.
Lawrence & Clare have been compared to the likes of Simon & Garfunkel and Gillian Welch & Dave Rawlings. Those Folk make not just folk music, but music for all sorts of folk. -
